Sunday Services

St. John's offers different Sunday worship services. Children are welcome at all our services.

We Are Trying a "New Thing"

for children this summer. We will all gather in the Nave for worship beginning at 10 AM, and then, after children come forward to hear the Gospel, they will move down to Hines Hall to have their own worship time with prayers and songs. In order to make this a success, we need some parishioners (including parents, non-parents, and older kids who wish to share their musical or story- telling talents) to sign up to help. Resources will be provided for story-telling, and crayons and cards for prayers. We also have some age-appropriate musical resources. Please sign up on the Worship bulletin board outside the office. If you need further information, please contact Marny Helfrich. Our youngest worshipers are appreciative of all efforts and deserve our help in growing in the knowledge and love of the Lord!

Summer Schedule 2010: Three Services

Beginning June 6, 2010 through September 12, 2010

8:00 - 8:55 a.m.
Quiet Communion in St. Mary's Chapel - see description below

10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Intergenerational Communion in the Church - with Children's Chapel in the lower level. Child care is provided. Our Church School is on vacation. This service combines elements of both the "Family-Friendly" 9:00 a.m. and the Traditional 11:15 a.m. services described below. On July 11, 2010 the service is followed by our Strawberry Festival.

5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
"Come as You Are" in the Church - see description below

Early Morning: Quiet Holy Communion

Time: 8:00-8:45 a.m.
Location: St. Mary's Chapel (on the north side of the building)
About this service: Small, quiet service of Holy Eucharist (Rite II)
Music: This service does not include music.
For children: Children are welcome to attend. Child care is not provided.

Midmorning: Family-Friendly Holy Communion

Time: 9:00-10:00 a.m. during the school year
Location: Nave (the central worship space)
About this service: Our largest service. The worship language for Holy Communion, also known as Holy Eucharist, incorporates contemporary language from Episcopal and other Anglican resources as well as the Book of Common Prayer Rite 2.
Music: Includes hymns as well as musical offerings each Sunday by the Alleluia Choir, accompanied by organ and piano. Special music is provided by the Primary Choir, St. John's Ringers, and other musicians.
For children: Young children are invited to attend Children’s Chapel during the first half of the service and then join the rest of the congregation for communion. Children serve as acolytes, lectors (readers), and members of ths Welcome Team at this service. Child care is provided.

Late Morning: Traditional Holy Communion

Time: 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. during the school year
Location: Nave (the central worship space)
About this service: Our second largest service. This traditional Communion, also known as Holy Eucharist, service features Book of Common Prayer RIte 1 during seasons such as Advent and Lent and Rite 2 during the rest of the year.
Music: Includes hymns as well as musical offerings each Sunday by St. John's Choir, accompanied by organ and piano. Special music is provided by St. John's Ringers and other musicians.
For children: Children are welcome to attend. Child care is provided.

Late Afternoon: "Come As You Are" Informal Holy Communion

Time: 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. All Year
Location: Nave (the central worship space) - generally congregation sits in the front half of the pews.
About this service: An intimate, very informal service where we gather around the altar for Holy Communion. Like the family-friendly service at 9:00 AM, it uses contemporary language from Episcopal and other Anglican resources as well as the Book of Common Prayer Rite 2. Volunteers from the congregation read the Scriptures and the Prayers.
Music: Easy-to-sing hymns - including those in the Hymnal and contemporary songs with piano accompaniment.
For children: Children are welcome to attend. Child care is not provided.
