Music is an integral part of St. John's worship. Parishioners and visitors alike can share in our inviting liturgy and welcoming spirit of music.
We offer three singing choirs which continue St. John's long tradition of fine music, and a handbell choir which adds its unique musical contribution to our worship.
I encourage each of you to give of your time and talent by singing or ringing in one of our choirs. No experience is necessary, only a willingness to listen and learn.
All are invited to make a joyful noise to the Lord!

The St. John's Choir is composed of a group of dedicated men and women who enjoy singing and worshipping together. Each section, soprano, alto, tenor, and bass, has a professional singer present to provide support and leadership not only during the music preparation period, but also for Sunday worship and other special events. The choir sings each Sunday at the 11:15 AM service and rehearses on Thursday evenings, 7:30-9:00 PM. They sing music from a variety of sacred styles and welcome singers of all levels from the parish and community.
The Primary Choir is for children in Kindergarten through second grade. The Primary Choir teaches children the building blocks of music through games, movement and singing. The choir works on songs and anthems to sing in church, but the main focus is on learning and enjoying music together. Rehearsals are in the choir room on Tuesday afternoons, 4:00-5:00 PM.
The Alleluia Choir is for those in grades three and above, plus adults who enjoy singing as part of a multi-age ensemble. Rehearsals include work on basic skills, musical preparation for services and special events, and, of course, lots of singing. The choir sings each Sunday at the 9 AM service and rehearses on Tuesday evenings, 7:00-8:00 PM. The rehearsal is divided in the following way to ensure proper development of the children's voices while allowing time for all singers to work on repertoire together: 7:00-7:15 PM, grades three-five; 7:15-7:45 PM, full Alleluia Choir rehearsal; 7:45-8:00 PM, grades six and above (youth only.)
The Norwood Ringers, our mixed age handbell ensemble, rehearses in the choir room each Thursday, 6-7:15 PM. The group, which is made up of musicians of all levels, plays in our worship services several times a year.
The chancel organ is a 3,380 pipe, 63 rank, 58 stop, 3 manual instrument built by renowned Berghaus Organ Company of Bellwood, Illinois. In both its stoplist and tonal approach, the organ is a synthesis of both classical and romantic styles. The French-inspired console, with its terraced drawknobs was custom designed for our worship space.
The balcony organ is an 1859 August Pomplitz and Henry Rodewald one manual tracker action instrument. This 5 rank organ represents the typical country pipe organ of its time as built by Pomplitz.
The chapel organ, given by parishioner Charles Wiecking in memory of his aunt, Mary Studabaker Wiecking, is a one manual English chamber style organ. This instrument by the Reuter Organ Company includes one of a kind stops labeled Wiecking Principals.
