Our faith enjoins us to be attentive to the needs of our neighbors, especially those in special need. St. John's Outreach Committee provides hands-on opportunities for parishioners to help their neighbors in need and directs funding to service agencies near and far.
The opportunities for involvement are many and growing, and we welcome not only your participation but also your ideas and energy as we strive to make a difference.
Some activities focus on hands-on assistance in the community: preparing and serving food for the needy in our county as in getting involved in Shepherd's Table or the Community Based Shelter programs. Our involvement also includes work on issues to improve housing opportunities, literacy or elder care and education for those most in need.
For more information about hands-on service projects, please see our current "Opportunities to Serve" booklet.
We seek out ways of providing money from the Outreach budget or special gifts to assist in a variety of programs, both local and international in scope. Our financial contributions are very important to the organizations to which we contribute, and the recipients are carefully selected based upon need and the impact that our contributions can make.
For more information about financial and volunteer support provided by Outreach, please see our current "Opportunities to Serve" booklet.
The Outreach Parish Action Committee meets several times a year to plan our activities and we need you. Watch the Sunday bulletin, Crossroads, and our bulletin board for dates, times and activities. Get involved! For further information, please leave a message at the church office [301/654-7767].
Choose to get involved whether on a regular basis, or perhaps just an hour or two for one project, but jump in. Those who do will tell you how rewarding they have found their efforts to be. When we all assemble all our parts, be they small or large, they turn into something really big. By putting them together we can make them count.
