Camp Joy 2000

In 2000 there were about 140 other teens at Camp Joy the week we were there. Each individual Youth Group that comes must purchase or bring the tools and materials needed for their projects. St. John's Youth Group worked on three houses last summer. On one house they stripped off one section of the roof down to the rafters, then replaced and repainted both it and the interior ceiling. They also repaired and repainted the porch of the house. The second house they worked on was a trailer for which they built a covered deck and front stairs. On the third house, they coated a section of the roof and repaired a screen door. The teens' accommodations for the week are far from luxurious. They tent camp. There are indoor bathrooms and showers but that's about as luxurious as it gets. They sleep in their tents along with the mosquitoes. If it rains they get to sleep in their tents in the mud with the mosquitoes.
